Our Missions Committee is leading worship today with a service about Presbyterian World Service and Development. The mission statement of PWS&D simple: “faithful in our calling, we respond together.” The organization may be rooted in the faith of the Presbyterian church, but it is ecumenical in practice. They gladly serve all people according to their need, regardless of their faith. In a world with too much poverty, injustice and oppression concentrated in nations of the South, they recognize the interrelation between our affluence and their suffering, and are committed to serving with other organizations seeking sustainable transformation of many communities, upholding compassion, justice and partnership. PWS&D works with international partners to carry out both emergency relief, and long-term community development programs in Guatemala, Haiti, Nicaragua, Ghana, Malawi, Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan.
